White Butter Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 1/4 cups cake flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 5 egg whites

 

Directions:

Cream butter and shortening;  add sugar and beat on medium.  Sift together flour, salt and baking powder.  Add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk.  Stir in vanilla.

Beat egg white until stiff peaks form.  Fold into batter.  Pour into pans and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

Frosting:

1 1/2 cups shortening or butter

2 tbsp milk

4 cups powdered sugar, sifted 10 times

1 tsp vanilla

Cream shortening at medium speed;  gradually add powdered sugar.  Beat until fluffy.  Add milk;  beat until spreading consistency.  Stir in vanilla.
