Oven Beef Stew

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
dash pepper
1 1/2 pound beef chuck, cut in 1-inch cubes
5 tablespoons shortening
2- 10 1/2- ounces can condensed tomato soup
2 soup can water
1 1/2 cup shopped onion
1 1/2 teaspoon dried basilm crushed
4 medium potatoes, pared and cubed
4 medium carrots, cut in 1-inch pieces
1 1/2 cup dry red wine or water

 

 

Preparation:

Combine flour, salt, and pepper; coat meat cubes in season flour. Brown in hot shortening in small Dutch oven; ass soup, water, onion and basil.

Cover and bakein moderate oven at 375 degreesabout 1 hour. Add potatoes, carrots, and wine. Cover and bake 1 hour longer or till tender.
